McKinney-Vento Act Information

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act ensure educational rights and stability for students who are experiencing homelessness.

Potential McKinney Vento Situations

Your child may qualify for help under the McKinney-Vento Act if any of the following living situations apply to your family:

Temporary Housing

Includes shelters, transitional housing, hotel/motel, campgrounds

Someone Else's Home

Staying at another home because you lost your housing or are going through a difficult financial situation and don't have another safe and stable place to stay.

Public Places

Staying in a car, park, public place, abandoned building, or bus or train station

CASC will immediately enroll the student if the CASC eligibility requirements are met, even if the child or youth lacks records normally required for enrollment. Age-eligible students that do not meet CASC eligibility requirements will be assisted in enrolling at Heron Virtual Academy. Records will be immediately requested from the previous school. Students will go through CASC student/family orientation and be informed of the expectations and requirements of school.
